The more progressive response characteristic of RP-1™ makes it well suited for inherently ‘over-servoed’ vehicles where a softer pad material is desirable to allow greater finesse when on the brakes.

EBC Racing would like to emphasise that it is not a case of RP-1™ being ‘less good’ than RP-X™, rather it is ‘different’ and designed to provide a distinctly different response characteristic (less aggressive bite) which some drivers may prefer.

RP-1™ boasts a flat friction response averaging 0.45mu and is capable of operating at temperatures of up to 750C without brake fade. However, unlike many other track/race pad materials on the market, RP-1™ possesses a progressive/benign response characteristic that provides an exceptional ‘feel’ during each and every braking event.

The slightly lower friction level of RP-1™ allows the brake pedal to be worked harder, which is particularly beneficial to cars that are over-servo’d from the factory (for example: Mk7 VW Golf GTI, BMW M cars, Audi RS models, etc). On inherently over-servo’d vehicles, RP-1™ somewhat negates the effect of the over-servo’d brake system setup, resulting in a more progressive and smooth response when driven on track.

In some modern vehicles, it can sometimes feel as if all the braking happens in the first inch of pedal travel. Whilst this sharp sensation gives the impression that the car has very ‘good’ brakes to the average driver pootling down to the shops, experienced track/race drivers know that a hair-trigger brake response is undesirable, verging on totally unacceptable for smooth driving at the limit. A modest amount of brake pedal travel is actually beneficial for performance driving and this is exactly what RP-1™ enables, encouraging the driver to find the limit under braking whilst also enabling trail-braking.

RP-1™ is particularly suitable for non-ABS assisted vehicles, where a smooth response is essential to avoid locking a wheel under braking. For heavy or inherently under‑servoed vehicles which suit a very aggressive pad, EBC Racing's other track material RP‑X may be preferable.

Brake Pad Features:

High friction level of 0.45 between 100-750°C (200-1400°F)

Capable of operating at temperatures of up to 750C without brake fade.

Made 100% in EBC Brakes’ Bristol, UK pad factory

Stainless steel backing plates (reduced heat conduction, no paint)

Backplates feature Nucap® NRS® hook pad retention system

Good pad life with excellent disc life

NOT R90 approved for road use in European markets

Made with Nucap NRS hooks on backplates to totally eliminate the chance of pad debond

How to Bed-in EBC RP-1/RP-X Brake Pads

No street pre-bed needed. This makes RP-X™ an excellent choice for sprint racing or hill climb events, where full brake performance is essential without requiring any ‘warming up’, but also makes RP-X™ well suited to any type of circuit use where a high initial bite and powerful brake response is desirable.

EBC Racing would like to emphasise that it is not a case of RP-X™ being ‘better’ than RP-1™, rather it is ‘different’ and designed to provide a distinctly different response characteristic (more aggressive bite) which some drivers may prefer.

RP-X™ also boasts a flat friction response and is capable of operating at temperatures of up to 750°C without brake fade, yet has a slightly higher average friction of 0.55mu. The higher friction level and higher initial bite mean RP-X™ is well suited to under-servo’d vehicles (for example: Nissan GT-R R35 and Porsche GT models).

On these inherently under-servo’d vehicles the brake system is naturally more progressive and feelsome, therefore a more aggressive pad material such as RP-X™ is preferable to keep pedal travel within the optimum displacement range. However, the extra power served up by RP-X™ isn’t at the expense of exceptional feel during the braking phase, with the material still allowing the driver to modulate the brake pedal with ease and explore the limits in each and every braking zone.

Similarly, dedicated track/race cars that employ aftermarket master cylinders, anti-roll bars and bias adjusters would also be well suited to running RP-X™, since these components allow the driver to fine tune the brake bias to permit the use of a naturally more aggressive pad material.

Brake Pad Features:

High friction level of 0.55 between 0-750°C (0-1400°F)

Capable of operating at temperatures of up to 750C without brake fade.

Made 100% in EBC Brakes’ Bristol, UK pad factory

Stainless steel backing plates (reduced heat conduction, no paint)

Backplates feature Nucap® NRS® hook pad retention system

Good pad life with excellent disc life

NOT R90 approved for road use in European markets

Made with Nucap NRS hooks on backplates to totally eliminate the chance of pad debond

How to Bed-in EBC RP-1/RP-X Brake Pads

No street pre-bed needed. Second they brake like an alligator right from cold (as good as original pads or better) and just get better as they heat up. The tyre rolling radius on the Mustang is 13.5” and on the TRX it is 17.3″, that’s a huge 30% increase in rolling radius, and on the Raptor the tyre rolling radius is 16.5” which is a 22% increase over the Mustang. The final issue is a spongy brake pedal that can occur during heavy deceleration as the caliper has to do more work because of the larger tyre diameters.

The solution to all is a higher friction pad, reducing the need for higher pedal or caliper pressures.

The new carbon granule based EXTRA DUTY material is also extremely rotor friendly, minimal in dust and noiseless and each set is supplied with revolutionary NUCAP piston insert shims, another first from EBC.

Brake Pad Features:

British made top quality product - new Red paint finish identifies the new grade AF 903/09

Backing plate steels feature NUCAP NRS system hook technology for 5 times the bond strength of conventional pads

After bedding ( up to 600-800 miles ) pads are silent

New dual slot and chamfer pattern to reduce noise and improve de-gassing.

Fade-free brake material capable of a wide range of operational temperatures

Pads should be allowed to seat to your discs/rotors with normal urban driving and then after 600-800 miles follow this by 15 medium to heavy brake applications to complete the bed-in and surface cure process.

More brake grip than stock and most low-cost aftermarket pads at less cost than original parts

Longer life than any other pad we have ever made and we think, longer life than anything else out there in the aftermarket, including stock pads

Features red brake in surface coating for instant safe braking after install

How to Bed-in EBC Redstuff™ Brake Pads

EBC brake pads are now mostly self bedding.
